The Songs           cdbaby

There are many different genres of music represented in my song writing, and the songs come from many different periods of my life.  In fact, Let Me Love You was first copyrighted way back in 1976.  I write songs for both male and female vocalists.  The songs are so different because I’ve worked in variety bands for so many years.  The styles you’ll find here are pop, rock, soul, jazz, funk, and a couple that might be called “hybrids.”  As a singer, I’m more of a middle reliever than a starting pitcher, so most of these songs are sung by some of the terrific singers I’ve come to know here in the Twin Cities.  That is me singing on Detective, 1962 and Lonna though.

There are two classic rockers here with Need A Man and 1962Detective is an alternative rock song.  Party is funk with the Sevilles horn section, and Jingo Jango is soul.  Heart is also a soul tune with a hat tip to the girl groups genre of the sixties.  Cool and Let Me Love You are jazz.  She’s No Good is a Latin tune, but fast, kind of a ska tune.

J-bone rocks out

Then there’s Lonna.  This song is an 11 minute medley of six songs containing some alternative rock sections, a brief ballad, some reggae, and a blues before it finally ends up rockin’ its way to the conclusion.  This song deals with some pretty adult issues and doesn’t have a happy ending, so parents, you may want to check it out before letting the kids listen.  I do think, though that this might be a good song for mature teens and adults to discuss together.  The audio chunk that you will audition to decide whether or not to download Lonna gives you a sampling of the rock section of the tune.  You can also go to the CD Lit page, download the CD Lit piece, and get to know these characters in depth and hear this song within the CD Lit format.
